My series of photographs, Beyond Matrimony, explores the environments of three Korean women. All three are newlyweds, struggling with their identities both as wives and as foreigners in a state of isolation, confusion, boredom, curiosity and resistance. These photographs address the paradox of their current existence – married but alone; self-confident but insecure; protected but vulnerable.
